Drought is hard work—there are no simple solutions…If anyone tells you there is a simple solution in the water arena, immediately assume they do not know anything about water. Typically the simple solutions are offered to accommodate one beneficial purpose at the expense of another.

Drought is hard work—there are no simple solutions…If anyone tells you there is a simple solution in the water arena, immediately assume they do not know anything about water. Typically the simple solutions are offered to accommodate one beneficial purpose at the expense of another. In the Sacramento Valley, water resources managers work in a different environment as they do not manage water for only one purpose, but instead manage water for various beneficial purposes, including cities and rural communities, farms, fish, birds and recreation. The perspective by Fritz Durst in the Sacramento Bee this past weekend articulates the hard work and the challenges facing water resources managers during dry years.
