As part of the ongoing effort to capture the unique beauty of the rich mosaic of lands and waters that make up the Sacramento Valley, NCWA has collaborated with Sacramento artist Tim Collom on three new paintings that display his vision of the region.

Tim is a prolific artist who has painted many California landscapes, including Lake Tahoe, various beaches and areas around Sacramento. In 2018, Tim sold signed prints of his “California” painting to raise funds for victims and first responders of the Camp Fire in Paradise. In addition to painting, Collom is also owner of a real estate business.
In November 2025, Tim traveled around the Sacramento Valley to draw inspiration for the paintings and visited several parts of the region, including Conaway Ranch, the Sacramento River waterfront in West Sacramento, and Montna Farms.

These three locations provided the backdrop for the paintings that you can now see in the Sacramento Valley Room in the NCWA office. Collectively these three paintings reflect the landscape in the Sacramento Valley and the importance water management plays in creating a region in which we are able to live, work and raise a family.

The paintings show the importance the region’s water supplies play in providing habitat for the resident and migratory species, farming that sustains much of the economy in the region and the cities and towns, including the State Capitol in Sacramento, which provide community for the region’s residents.
This is the first blog in a series for the paintings. Future blogs will take a deeper look into the individual paintings and the locations in the Sacramento Valley that inspired them.
