In November 2024, California voters passed Proposition 4 to fund projects for water, wildfire prevention, and protection of communities and lands. On behalf of the Floodplain Forward Coalition, we urge the Legislature to fund floodplain reactivation and priority projects through Proposition 4 and other available funding to address the urgent needs of fish and wildlife as well as water resiliency for California’s communities and economy. This important funding will help the state and diverse coalitions like ours continue to implement adaptive management principles to enhance floodplains as natural infrastructure that provides multiple benefits, including improving conditions for threatened salmon, sustaining the vulnerable Pacific Flyway, improving flood protection, and supporting groundwater sustainability.
