At its heart, agriculture in California is about connection—between water and land, people and place, food and community. That’s why I’m proud to help share this new message from Secretary Karen Ross of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, introducing CDFA’s updated Strategic Plan for 2025–2030.

As a member of the State Board of Food and Agriculture, I’ve seen firsthand the care and intention behind this plan. It’s more than a guiding document for the Department—it’s an invitation to all Californians to better understand why and how we grow food in this state, and the values that guide us: resilience, equity, innovation, sustainability.

Here at the Northern California Water Association, we share that vision. Water connects everything we do in agriculture and our communities, and it is essential to building the equitable and resilient food systems that CDFA’s Strategic Plan calls for. Whether you’re a consumer, a policymaker, a farmer, or simply someone who cares about where your food comes from—this plan is for you.

You can watch the video below and read more from Secretary Ross in her blog post, If you are a Californian, this is for you: Unveiling CDFA’s Strategic Plan Update for 2025–2030.
