Sacramento Valley leaders are seeking input on a document providing a macro-view of the approach underway to benefit Chinook salmon in the region. A Holistic Approach for Healthy Rivers and Landscapes in the Sacramento River Basin is an overview of the amazing efforts underway from ridgetop to river mouth in every part of the Sacramento Valley to “give salmon a chance” by improving freshwater conditions for each life-stage of all four runs of Chinook salmon.
These collaborative actions, coupling sufficient volumes of water with projects producing or enhancing physical changes to the landscape, create ecological function and healthy rivers and landscape for salmon while allowing water to be managed concurrently for other beneficial uses for communities, farms, other fish and wildlife, recreation, and hydropower. This holistic approach shows the breadth of actions that are necessary for salmon and builds upon decades of work in the Sacramento Valley to promote salmon recovery through the implementation of various projects.
A Holistic Approach for Healthy Rivers and Landscapes in the Sacramento River Basin is available here or by clicking the document below. We welcome your input and ideas to improve freshwater conditions for each life-stage of all four runs of Chinook salmon and are looking for project proponents to advance these efforts.
