The winter, River Garden Farms (RGF) is participating in a pilot program to determine the value winter flooding of rice fields can provide to help feed migrating juvenile salmon in the Sacramento Valley. The program, which involves slightly altering winter agricultural practices that help birds using the Pacific Flyway to determine if they can also provide food benefits to juvenile salmon and other fish species. River Garden Farms has blogged on this effort, providing a good overview regarding what is occurring as well as the partnerships that are helping to make this happen.
I encourage you to visit the River Garden Farms blog page on its website to get updates on this project as well as additional habitat projects RGF is engaged in to help salmon. The blog page is located at: rivergardenfarms.com
