Water is valued greatly on our family farm and we have spent many years trying to improve the efficiency of our water use here. And this time of year is interesting in relation to water because we have about four to five inches of water in the field right now, but we’ll be harvesting these fields shortly.

Water is valued greatly on our family farm and we have spent many years trying to improve the efficiency of our water use here. And this time of year is interesting in relation to water because we have about four to five inches of water in the field right now, but we’ll be harvesting these fields shortly.

Once this water is drained, we won’t have lost much of it to evaporation at all. So most of it that is here today, will actually be going into the river systems. And when it goes to the river systems, it will help other farmers down stream, who might need it for irrigating tree crops, for example. Or, it might help the fish species that are in those rivers and streams, terrestrial species or municipalities that need it down stream as well.
